Claire discovers that the community has captured a “seer” and is conducting experiments trying to come up with a vaccine to give everyone immunity to the creatures. There, they are greeted by a community of survivors, including Sofia’s mother. The end of Bird Box Barcelona shows Claire and Sofia reaching the top of Mount Montjuïc by gondola. At the end of the movie, Sebastián tries to redeem himself and gives his life to allow Claire and Sofia to escape from a gang of seers. His relationship with Sofia causes him to second guess his actions. However, through his time with the survivors from the fallout shelter, Sebastián grows close to the German child Sofia, who reminds him of Anna. They are known as “seers” and are also known to attack other survivors and force them to gaze at the malevolent entity. There are other survivors who, like Sebastián, are immune to the Bird Box creatures. He constantly sees and hears Anna instructing him to force other survivors to “see”. Anna actually passed away some time ago and the event has caused Sebastián to lose his mind. It’s revealed through flashbacks that Sebastián is immune to the Bird Box entity and his daughter is a hallucination. Sebastián (Mario Casas) is an immune survivor in Bird Box Barcelona (2023). The audience sees that Sebastián can actually see the light leaving people’s bodies and going to heaven after they die. Sebastián and his daughter refer to this as “saving” people, or setting their souls free. He believes that the suicidal psychosis brought on by whatever the Bird Box creatures are is a good thing and he goes out of his way to force people to “see”. However, the other survivors don’t know that Sebastián has an ulterior motive. When he meets a group of survivors living in a fallout shelter, he helps them come up with a plan to meet other survivors and find a safe community on top of Mount Montjuïc. Sebastián (Mario Casas) is a Catholic man just trying to survive with his daughter in post-apocalyptic Spain. The parallel makes this new addition to the digital collective a fascinating one, even if the movie severely underplayed the Sarah Paulson card and everyone needed to listen to John Malkovich more.Streaming on Netflix Bird Box Barcelona Plot Summary with far less grave consequences than the characters on-screen, of course, but still. Just like those alien-demon-whatever voices that beckon our heroes to take off the blindfolds, Bird Box fans on Twitter have been summoning everyone else to peel off those blinders to see for themselves. Then, once this new wave of watchers tuned in, the whole cycle started up again. Then the memes got going, and Bird Box watchers were enjoying an inside joke or two or twelve.Īfter that, people started started watching the movie just to even understand what everyone was fussing about because the FOMO was starting to get to be too much. (Speaking of which, probably best to stop scrolling now if you haven't already seen the movie, so consider this a SPOILER WARNING.) Pretty soon, like those delightful little birdies in the movie itself, everyone was tweeting about this pic, and the movie slowly began to dominate the internet conversation.Īnd, of course, not everybody has been terribly considerate about abiding the spoilers code, so if you wanted to avoid spoilers, you had to watch it before any more popped up on the feed. See, shortly after its release, Bird Box was just kind of there, and the people who watched it reacted with open curiosity. So, why, for such an un-revolutionary TV movie, is Bird Box commanding so much internet attention? It's like A Quiet Place meets The Happening meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and it's fine. If you can avoid looking at the thing, and stay away from the mole people who are trying to force you to look at the thing, it's fine. Otherwise, this is a pretty straight forward movie about an invisible alien invasion that causes people to self-destruct when they see. It's not that the film's plot is terribly confusing or overwrought there are only a couple of loose threads that might get an audience scratching at scalps, like the fact that we never actually see what all the infected people see that devours them so. So, ever since Netflix's Bird Box dropped, the internet has had a time discussing the Sandra Bullock-led dread-inducing drama. How else could you imagine closing out a year like this one, besides? You might not think watching a gloomy post-apocalyptic thriller would be the way people would want to spend their precious time off during the winter holidays, but it's still 2018, which means all the 2018 rules apply (read: there aren't any).
